A Three Raspberry Pi Home

We are currently running three Raspberry Pi’s in our house.

The first is a Pi 2, running in our garage, and acting as our general home server.  It acts as a NAS device (running SAMBA) for backups and hosting video files, a torrent seed box (with remote access) and the server for this WordPress installation.

The second is another Pi 2, running in our den, with a partially complete RetroPie installation – providing old school arcade and console gaming opportunities.  Nothing  beats sitting down for an old Nintendo or Atari 2600 classic on a 42″ HDTV.

The third is an older Pi Model B (which previously served as our general home server, before being replaced with the Pi 2, now runs in our mud room to provide an always up-to-date electronic calendar of the family’s events over the next four weeks.

More information on each to come in the future, but I at least wanted to get this out there for people looking for ideas as to practical uses for a Raspberry Pi.

Your home server pi sounds sweet. I just got my 6 & 7 y/o setup with a kano Pi 2 kit, a RPi Zero setup in headless mode with NagiosPi for monitoring the network and pinging all my client sites (saves me $49/mo at Pingdom), and I’ve got a Pi 2 that I want to setup with Kali and do some pentesting/Press Pi stuff.

What are some good tutorials for setting up a Pi as a NAS device? How are you using one Pi for NAS and seeding? I’d like to set mine up for NAS and as a VPN.
